Night out in Ankeny

Going out on the weekends seems to be less frequent now that we are parents.  But when given the opportunity, the Ryan’s are ready to rock with a night out.

A few observations:

1.  Ahi Tuna is really tasty

2.  Scallops are also really tasty

3.  Some homemade creamy parmesan dressing is so good that I could drink it

27 and counting

Doug, otherwise known as Adam Douglas (back) turned 27 today!  We celebrated a couple of days ago and had a great time.  I thought it would be nice to take a timed photo together in order to document the evening.  It turned out well, although we needed a couple tries to get a keeper.

Just the Girls

The ladies took a trip to the mall this week and also made a pit stop at the Cheesecake Factory.  And that’s about it!  I try not to ask too many questions when my wife goes to the mall.  Sometimes it’s best to look the other way when she has Sydney in one arm and shopping bags in the other.

3 Months

The last couple months Sydney has significantly increased her awareness of her surroundings, recognition of faces, as well as parts of her own body.  She notices familiar people, and seems less inclined to smile at a “stranger”.  About a month ago, I think she realized that she actually had a body.  First was the thumb, more recently her arm.  While playing on her mat she has started reaching for dangling toys.  She is such a great baby, and her mommy and daddy love her very much.

Night at the Schulz’s

Sunday night was movie night over at the Shulz’s house.  We watched Paranormal Activity, an Indie thriller.  Todd really doesn’t like scary movies, and Mary says she likes them, but then can’t sleep for 3 days after watching.  Since it was my choice, it was necessary to act as if I had no fear.  Truthfully, I nearly wet my pants.

Other happenings of the night included Todd instructing me in the art of filleting a kiwi.  I later found out that he uses this technique to prepare wild rabbit.  Gross!

New Discovery

Sydney recently discovered a new appendage, her thumb.  It took her a couple of weeks to learn how to find this evasive portion of her hand with any sort of regularity.  However, with practice and determination, she is now able to pacify herself whenever the time is right.
